A Year of Violet

We are gearing up for vacation this week so I haven't been crafting or trying new recipes. Packing for a baby is seriously overwhelming but I have just decided if that if we need anything a store is just a car ride away.

We have rented a camp on a lake in Maine, my home state. This is something my family did every summer while growing up and I am so excited to be starting this tradition with Violet.

I thought with my lack of crafting/cooking it would be a good time to share the weekly photos I take of Miss Violet.

The Clara Photo Project is where I found the inspiration for "A Year of Violet". I had planned on doing the monthly onesie stickers but when I saw these awesome photos I decided to get 52 weekly onesie stickers and invest in 52 yards of fabric.

Purple Possum Etsy Shop is where I bought the onesie stickers. I had to ask for a custom listing for the 52 weeks, normally she just has the monthly stickers listed. She has all different types of designs, I just love them.

Our first photo was taken in the hospital. For some reason I hadn't thought of packing the fabric just the onesie sticker so we improvised with a receiving blanket.
I try to match the fabric to the color of the onesie sticker as best as I can.
I like to theme her photos to holidays or other special events.
The week we moved.
The Olympics, this picture was featured on our local news station's Facebook page.
When I first was thinking about doing this I thought it would just be the fabric, onesie sticker and Violet of course but the prop possibilities became too cute to resist.
Now these photo shoots don't always go smoothly. The hardest week by far was the Olympic week and I even had my mom to help. Miss Violet just didn't want to smile or look at the camera.
Some weeks I take over 50 pictures. If we (myself and Violet) become frustrated I will take a break, let Violet play and try again. As Violet becomes more mobile it is slowly getting harder especially because I do these photos by myself.

Sometimes we have Diva moments and admirers.

This past week I tried using painter's tape to hold the fabric but it didn't work too well.

These photos are an investment in time and money but I love doing them. I have seen other people who use the same blanket every month as the background which I think is a great idea too.
After this year is over I plan to make a quilt with the fabric with the help of my mom. I have decided that Violet's first birthday party will be themed around the fabric. I have brainstormed some creative ideas on how to decorate the party with the remaining fabric and props but you will have to stay tuned for those ideas.
Would I do this again?
Absolutely! In fact I have promised myself that I will do this again for any future children we may have, it only seems fair.
